BEATTY:

A book is a loaded gun in the house next door. Burn it. Take the shot from the weapon. Who knows who might be the target of the well read man? Me? Can’t you see it? What traitors books can be! You think they’re baking you up, and they turn on you. Others can use them, too, and there you are, lost in the middle of the moor, in a great welter of nouns and verbs and adjectives. All of them full of nonsense! Come on, sit down, Montag. Watch. Delicately, like the petals of a flower. Light the first page, Light the second page. Each becomes a black butterfly… Beautiful, eh? Light the third page from the second and so on, chain –smoking, chapter by chapter, all the silly things the words mean, all the false promises, all the second- hand notions and time-worn philosophies. That’s what we are, firemen. They gave us a new job, as custodians of our peace of mind; official censors, judges, and executors. That’s you, Montag, and that’s me.

The Fireman.

Adaptación libre a cine de la novela Fahrenheit 451 de Ray Bradbuy
